MEGAN DRENNAN

Australian Artist

Who am I?

Dutch Australian, I draw inspiration from the rural landscapes that surround me in my daily life as an avid equestrian.

I was born and raised on the Darling Downs, Queensland. I have been drawing and painting animals particularly horses for as long as I can remember. Some of my first memories are drawing ponies as a young girl.

My home studio is situated in the picturesque open farming area of Umbiram, Queensland. My favourite medium of acrylic allows me to create intriguing and highly textured work.

I find inspiration in rural and equestrian life. I’m lucky to live in a rural area with great views and big skies. I enjoy taking my own reference photos for my paintings, whether it’s our own dog, horses and poultry, our neighbour’s sheep and cattle, or the birds and landscapes around us. Our property attracts a varied abundance of birds – I love how the resident birds come and remind me to put out feed for them. I love being immersed in the moment while painting and seeing a piece emerge from the canvas.

Unrestricted by a singular artistic style, I offer a variety of quirky landscapes, animal portraits and still life.

Lose yourself in the whimsy of my creations.

Until next time…

Pondering before painting is a big part of my artistic process, but I also need time to put new ideas on the ‘back burner’ of my brain. Funnily enough, I find my best ideas often come to me when I’m not thinking about them at all.
